What matters most to our clients and to us is that people learn something incredibly useful that they can use day-to-day to get better business results. We’re always looking for new talent to join our team of associate training providers. If you are interested, please send an outline proposal to donna.finley@barkingenterprisecentre.co.uk

Mentors/Retirees

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Community Interest Company?

Community Interest Companies (CICs) are social enterprises that want to use their profits and assets for the public good and for the benefit of the community. Here at the BEC we re-invest our profits by funding training and mentoring programmes to support start-ups and SMEs in the community.

But we are so much more than that! At BEC we are a business family. Think of us as an eco-system that can support all your business needs.

What are the office hours?

BEC is open Monday to Friday 8 AM to 10 PM, Saturday 9 AM to 5 PM.

BEC2 is open Monday to Friday 9 AM to 9 PM. Saturdays & Sundays: Closed

Can I really hire office space month-to-month?

Yes! Our month-to-month commitment provides you with the stability of an office but also the flexibility you need to grow your business. Our rent arrangements also mean you would only need to give one month’s written notice to vacate.

Are you looking for new suppliers?

We have a ‘look local’ promise, which means we will always select a local, independent provider to supply services, where possible. For example, all our quality catering services for meetings and events are provided by local businesses. Please contact us to discuss opportunities.

Do you offer business insurance?

No, you would need to arrange your own business insurance as you won’t be covered under the BEC.

Do you have kitchen facilities I can use?

As part of your tenancy, we offer free tea and coffee to you and your visitors – you only need to supply your own milk. There is a kitchen area on each floor with fridge, sink, microwave and work top which is available for you to use. We just ask that you label your food, be responsible for your own washing up and keep the area clean and tidy.

Can I transfer between BEC and BEC2?

If you are a on a hot-desk contract, it is entirely possible to access both buildings. For fixed office spaces, please call us to discuss your needs.

House rules

We operate strict no-smoking, no animals (other than assistance animals) policies. For further details and a copy of the full guidance, please contact us.

Do you have parking facilities?

We do not offer parking facilities, other than loading bays for deliveries and collections and disabled access. As part of our commitment to the environment, we do offer secure bike storage on site. Parking is available at London Road Multi-storey car park.

Do you offer referral rewards?

We certainly do! For all successful referrals by current tenants, we offer a 10% reduction in workspace or meeting room hire fees, deducted from the next full month rent. There are no limits to the number of referrals that you can make.

Can I hire a meeting room even if I’m not a tenant?

Absolutely – speak to us about your needs. Please note, we do not hire to any organisations whose presence might cause civil unrest or division within the community or for any activity that may cause or pose a risk of loss, damage or significant expense to the BEC, or harm the reputation of the BEC.

What is your commitment to the environment and sustainability?

We are committed to reducing energy consumption through our building design as well as how we work. This includes monitoring our energy consumption and reducing our carbon footprint. We do this through our significant reduction in the purchase and use of single-use plastics, renewables purchasing, the installation of solar panels at BEC and our BREEAM environmental certification. We also encourage our clients to turn off all lights and electrical equipment when not in use, to further reduce our energy consumption.
